The traditional ‘stand-up’ style of catering is the time honoured Canapés catering; also known as cocktail canapés, finger food or hor d’oeuvres. The concept of cocktail canapé catering started in France and was used to bridge the gap between the time when the guests arrived and the time when the guests sat down and were served their entrée. The French phrase ‘hors d’oeuvres’ literally translates as ‘outside the works’. The phrase was used by French chefs to indicate appetizers served apart from the main course of a dinner. Therefore, hors d’oeuvres are, quite literally, outside the main design of the meal. Canapés used to be a type of hors d’oeuvre, however in common modern day parlance all the variations on the phrase ‘hor d’oeuvres’ have come to mean the same thing, which I will call canapés.

Superb Food and Service
Thank you for the superb food and service that you and the Pure catering Team provided for my husband’s 50th Birthday. The food was plentiful and delicious and the service was very efficient but also no obtrusive which was great. The left overs fed 2 families the next day! Happy to be a reference if required.
