From finance to feeding people – Paul’s story

Meet Paul

When you think of a Business Development Manager, you picture a confident handshake, and a knack for closing deals. You wouldn’t be wrong—but Paul’s story has a twist.

After 29 years in finance, Paul traded in balance sheets for banquet tables, moving from corporate boardrooms to event showrooms. And the best part? He didn’t just bring his sales skills with him—he brought his heart, his humour, and a deep connection to our family-run business.

The Early Days

Paul spent nearly three decades working for one of the big four banks, starting as a teller before moving into leadership roles that focused on customer experience.

“The thing I enjoyed most about finance was meeting people, learning their stories, and being able to enhance their lives. Everything I learned paved the way for new relationships and taught me that connection is always the start of a journey—something I didn’t know would one day serve me in catering.”

Why Family Business Works for Me

For Paul, Pure Catering isn’t just about food—it’s about people. From his very first day, he embraced the team as family.

“Pure Catering isn’t just a workplace—it’s a family. We celebrate wins together, help each other in the chaos, and laugh a lot along the way. That connection with the team and clients makes all the difference.”

What I Actually Do Here

Paul’s role is part relationship-builder, part walking business card, and part HR lead.

“My job is all about building relationships—meeting clients, understanding their needs, and showing them why Pure is the right fit for their event or company catering. My motto is ‘a new customer is a gift’—and I love the opportunity to bring new gifts every day.”

Paul also looks after HR at Pure, making sure the team and workplace run smoothly so staff can focus on what matters most: delivering exceptional catering experiences.

Finance vs. Catering

Switching industries hasn’t meant leaving behind deadlines and spreadsheets. But catering adds its own unique flavour to the mix.

“In finance, I dealt with spreadsheets, deadlines, and meetings. In catering, I still deal with those—but there’s also food, delivery vans, and last-minute menu changes. It’s a different kind of adrenaline, but one that gives satisfaction, not stress.”

Why I Love What I Do

For Paul, nothing beats the joy of introducing new clients to Pure.

“A new customer is a gift—and gifts are what we’re made of. Being able to take a sample to a new client, watch them taste what we do, and then welcome them into the Pure family—that’s my happy place. Creating a new food journey for a client is where the relationship starts.”

Paul knows the real secret is people—treating them well, keeping promises, and always adding a personal touch.

“Finance taught me discipline. Catering taught me joy. I’m lucky I get to combine them every day.”
